Nissan’s Electric Future At Middle East Forum
Nissan Motor Co. Ltd shared its vision of zero-emission mobility at the World Economic Forum on the Middle East taking place at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Nissan’s proposition was made at a World Economic Forum workshop entitled Managing Urbanization in the Middle East that examined global changes affecting the way cities are managed.
Middle East cities are witnessing phenomenal growth and development. Such growth represents a challenge on both the environment and the infrastructure. The fact that the Middle East is also one of the fastest growing automotive markets in the World adds to the challenge for innovative mobility solutions.
Under its GT 2012 mid-term business plan, Nissan has committed to introduce a pure electric vehicle in the U.S. and Japan in 2010 and then to mass-market electric vehicles to consumers globally in 2012.
“From a personal mobility perspective, Nissan firmly believes a sustainable solution can be found in zero emission vehicles," said Simon Sproule, Corporate Vice President Global Communications and CSR division, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.
The World Economic Forum workshop recognized the need for sustainable solutions that address urban congestion and pollution to foster better future economic opportunities in urban areas.
“Partnerships between the public and private sector are an important factor to making zero emission vehicles attractive and viable for consumers, especially in urban areas,” added Sproule.
