Racing for Real

PS3 experts can win a GT-R spin on Nissan’s test track

Virtual motor-racing experts now have the chance to test their skills on a real racetrack – behind the wheel of a genuine high-performance sports car.

Nissan Middle East and PlayStation are joining forces for the GT-5 Prologue Middle East Challenge and the region’s best exponent of the PlayStation game will test drive the Nissan GT-R and travel to Japan with a friend to visit the Nissan car assembly plant.

Nine regional heats for competitors from Manama, Jeddah, Doha, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Cairo, Khobar and Kuwait City are being held during June and July. The fastest time from each heat qualifies for the finals which will take place at Dubai’s Festival City on July 19, 2008.

The winner will also be able to take a friend to Japan to test drive the Nissan GT-R super sports car, as well as receiving a GT5 racing pod (including 40 W BRAVIA LCD TV, a PLAYSTATION3 console, and Gran Turismo™5 Prologue game)

The runner-up wins a 40-inch W Bravia LCD TV, PlayStation3, GT5 Prologue game, and Logitech Driving Force GT wheel with the third placed competitor collecting a PlayStation3, a GT5 Prologue game and Logitech Driving Force GT wheel.

Nissan’s GT-R is one of the world's fastest vehicles and has been hailed as the most accomplished and technologically advanced high-performance car ever made. Nissan GT-R’s recent achievement was a lap record at the famous Nurburgring in Germany last April with a time of 7m 29s. The Nissan GT-R used was a base specification car and fitted with the standard Japanese market tires.

PlayStation launched the GT5 Prologue in March this year and it has quickly become exceptionally popular with virtual motor-racing enthusiasts.

Both companies work closely at international and regional levels – cooperation described by Monal Zeidan, General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications Department at Nissan Middle East as “Leadership in our respective fields”.

He added: “The GT-R has created unparalleled excitement in the auto industry, and it’s now common knowledge that there’s a little bit of GT-R in every Nissan. The GT5 Prologue is unquestionably the closest you can get to motor racing thrills without actually being on the track.

“The GT5 Prologue Middle East Challenge brings the best of both worlds to PlayStation fans and high-performance enthusiasts.”

Visitors of Nissan showrooms in the Middle East will also have the chance to experience the game through the GT5 pods stationed in their premises.
